Hospital da Luz Clinical Cases Presented in International Orthopaedic Surgery Congress
Eduardo Carpinteiro and André Barros, orthopaedic surgeons in Hospital da Luz units of Lisboa, Amadora and Oeiras, presented two works at the world congress of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT), which took place in Cape City (South Africa), between November 30 and December 2.
Both papers are based in the clinical practice of the shoulder and elbow group of the Service of Orthopaedics and Traumatology from Hospital da Luz.
This was the 38th SICOT world congress. Top specialists from all over the world were present, allowing discussion and exchange of experiences on the most recent techniques and knowledge in the area of orthopaedic surgery.
The first paper presented by Hospital da Luz physicians – entitled “Tenotomy vs Tenodesis of the long head of the biceps in reparable rotator cuff tears” – is a retrospective study of 110 cases of patients treated in Lisboa and Oeiras units.
The second paper – “Arthroscopic treatment of acromioclavicular joint dislocation” – is a work of bibliographic revision, equally based on the clinical practice of the shoulder and elbow group, coordinated by Eduardo Carpinteiro.
It is worth mentioning that this Hospital da Luz team has wide experience in the treatment of shoulder and elbow lesions, being pioneer in the use of arthroscopic surgical techniques (minimally invasive), for 10 years now.
