The maternity of Hospital da Luz Lisboa closed 2021 celebrating for the second consecutive year a record of births: 2.898, more 23 than in 2020. Altogether, last year, 6.121 babies were born in Grupo Luz Saúde hospital units . After Hospital da Luz Lisboa, Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (in Loures, which integrates the National Health Service and is run by Luz Saúde in a public-private partnership until the next 18 th January, the end date of the contract) was the unit with more births last year: 2.327. Then, follow the maternities of Hospital da Luz Arrábida (222 babies), Vila Real (212), Guimarães (183), Póvoa de Varzim (179) and Aveiro (100). In global terms, there were less 33 births in these Luz Saúde units, comparatively to 2020 (following the general trend of birth rate reduction in Portugal: data from the National Neonatal Screening Program, indicate that in the first eleven months of 2021, 72.316 children were born, lessa 6.058 than in the same period in 2020). Pedro Silva, in the photo above , was one of “our” babies: he was born on October 10, with a 3.235 kg weight, at Hospital da Luz Guimarães.
