The Hospital da Luz Lisboa Spine Centre and Hospital da Luz Learning Health Simulation Centre are organizing, next 28 and 29 May, the 1 st Lisbon Spine Simulation Course – an innovative simulation spine course in Portugal. This training will count with the participation of several national and international specialists and is destined to internists or specialists in neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery and surgical nurses. “It is an unprecedented event because, for the first time in Portugal, the most modern simulators of spine surgery will be available, extremely realistic, which mimic anatomy, critical structures at risk and intraoperative hemorrhage, overcoming the limitations of courses in anatomical piece”, highlights Bruno Santiago , neurosurgeon at Hospital da Luz Lisboa and coordinator of this course. Surgeons, both internists and specialists, will have the opportunity to “consolidate technical gestures of the various steps of a minimally invasive surgery” and for operating room nurses “this is a unique learning opportunity in a surgical intervention that involves more differentiated technology, all of this in a relaxed atmosphere, but mimicking the real scenario of an operating room”. The program for May 28 includes a training session open to enrolment for all health professionals aiming to enlarge their knowledge on lumbar spine degenerative pathology and to have contact with the latest technology and state-of-the-art of surgery in this area. Besides some of the most renowned national specialists in spine minimally invasive surgery, the 1 st Lisbon Spine Simulation Course will have the participation as international speakers of the renowned surgeons Ali Baaj (USA), Jake Timothy (United Kingdom) and Avelino Parajon (Spain).
