For the 10 th consecutive time, the Hospital da Luz was the official medical services for the most important national tennis tournament, the Millennium Estoril Open. With around two dozen health professionals, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and masseurs, the Hospital da Luz team shone once again on and off the court, keeping two medical centers open for the athletes and the public during the 9 days of the tournament. “ It is an honor for the Hospital da Luz to be a partner of this event that is a reference in national sport for 10 years - the largest tennis tournament to be held in Portugal. And it has been a great partnership, I believe both for the event and for us, as we have been able to provide excellent support, which is recognized by all partners ”, confesses, with visible pride, José Pedro Marques . The Sports Medicine specialist at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, who led the hospital's team of healthcare professionals at the Millennium Estoril Open, explained: “ We have a Sports Medicine specialist supporting the athletes every day. We have three dedicated physiotherapists, doing their best to get the athletes back in shape to play and recover from injuries. And we also have a team of masseurs ready to do whatever is needed ”, adding: “ And we have provided an excellent response, both here and later in the background, with Hospital da Luz Lisboa, where we have a Sports and Exercise Medicine Centre with a wide range of services ”, he also stressed during the tournament. In addition to the two medical centers, Hospital da Luz was present with its own space, which was visited by hundreds of visitors every day. With a health quiz, a game where players had to learn how to use a tennis racket correctly and the constant presence of the hospital mascot, Lu, the Hospital da Luz space contributed to the excitement that surrounds the entire Millennium Estoril Open. Jaime Faria, one of the newest stars of Portuguese tennis and ambassador for the Hospital da Luz brand in the sport, visited the hospital for an autograph session, which brought together hundreds of people, mainly children and young people, eager to meet and take a selfie with the tennis player. This year, Hospital da Luz also joined the Millennium Estoril Open in supporting CERCICA. The institution that accompanies and supports adults with disabilities was challenged to create themed works of art about tennis, which were on sale at the tournament venue for the 9 days. An exhibition with some of the pieces created by CERCICA artists had already been opened in the internal garden of Hospital da Luz Lisboa , which will run until May 30th and the proceeds from which will go to the young people and adults from CERCICA who created each of the pieces on display. The Millennium Estoril Open 2025, which took place between April 27 and May 4, had 28 participants, of which more than a dozen were Portuguese. Young Alex Michelsen, 38th in the ATP rankings at the age of 20, was the big winner of this year's event, beating qualifier Andrea Pellegrino 6-4 and 6-4 in 74 minutes. The Californian tennis player, finalist in three ATP Tour tournaments, won the biggest title of his career and the first title, at any level, on clay, which saw him rise to 32nd place in the ranking.
