About 400 persons participated last May 7 in the walk organized by Clíria – Hospital Privado, around the celebration of the Global Handwashing Day. In spite of the greyish morning and threatening rain, enthusiasm surrounded all those who decided to participate in the initiative. The 4 km course started at Pole 2 of Clíria proceeding along Aveiro railway station and bike path of Avenida Lourenço Peixinho, ending near Cais da Fonte Nova, where inflatables installed offered the younger participants fun time. This initiative had the purpose of alerting the community and health professionals for the importance of handwashing, thus contributing to the reduction of infection associated with healthcare. Global Handwashing Day is an initiative of the World Health Organization, as part of the World Alliance for Patient Safety - Clean Care is Safer Care, joined by Portugal in October 2008.
