The Portuguese National Health Board (DGS - Direção Geral de Saúde) designated Carlos Palos, internist physician at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (HBA), to integrate the team coordinating the National Program of Prevention and Control of Infection and Resistance to Antimicrobial Resistance (Programa Nacional de Prevenção e Controlo de Infeções e de Resistência aos Antimicrobianos). The HBA physician has wide experience in the area, coordinating since the beginning, the hospital local group for prevention and control of infection, in the scope of which he has developed innovating projects, that are referred as examples by DGS and recommended to every hospital in the country. Already in his new functions, Carlos Palos participated, on June 23, as Portuguese representative (national focal point) in the preparatory meeting of the European Antibiotic Awareness Day, which took place in Stockholm, at the headquarters of ECDC – the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. The Portuguese National Health Board had already designated another HBA physician for National Programs in priority health areas in the country. Cristina Valadas, director of endocrinology at this hospital, is for two months now the national coordinator of the National Program for Diabetes.
