A team of ophthalmologists from the Vision Centre of Hospital da Luz Lisboa , directed by Filomena Ribeiro, gave a cataract refractive surgery course destined to specialists, during the national congress of the Portuguese Society of Ophthalmology , which took place between 5 and 7 December in Vilamoura. The course – entitled “Demystifying cataract refractive surgery” – approached the experience of the Implant-Refractive Department of the Vision Centre, from the pre-operative evaluation of patients to the surgical procedure and future perspectives. The course is accredited by EACCME (European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education) and has the scientific coordination of Filomena Ribeiro and Bernardo Feijó . It was delivered by both and also by Leyre Zabala , Paulo Guerra and Peter Pêgo , viewing to promote an updating of professionals in the area, over the latest techniques, methodologies and cataract refractive surgery tools (approaching themes such as patient selection, presbyopia and astigmatism correction, biometrics and lens power calculation). This training was also already approved to integrate the program of the 38 th Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), which will take place between 3 and 7 October 2020, in Amsterdam. ESCRS is the most representative European organization of ophthalmologists and leader in innovation in this segment of surgery.
