Already a tradition before the start of a new basketball season, Clube Desportivo da Póvoa (CDP) organized the Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim Tournament, this year with the participation of Esgueira and Ovarense. Between the 13 th and 15 th September, at the CDP sports hall, the three clubs competed with each other and Ovarense turned to be the winner (decide by score average, since every team secured a win). Hundreds of fans of the modality watched the three matches: on September 13, Ovarense-Esgueira (resulting in 79-81), on September 14, CDP-Ovarense (resulting in 69-67) and on September 15, CDP-Esgueira (resulting in 70-78). On this last day, the CDP sports hall was packed full, with hundreds of fans celebrating and watching the presentation of the club’s teams in the different levels of the modality. Lu and Poveirinho, respectively the mascots of Hospital da Luz and CDP, greatly contributed to cheer up the stands. The tournament’s trophy was delivered to Ovarense team by Pedro Linhares, the Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim general director. After the closing ceremony of the tournament, there was also a gathering between athletes, CDP members and Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim collaborators. Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim is the official medical service provider of the CDP basketball section, ensuring an individualized clinical follow-up of its athletes. The collaboration protocol also provides for benefits and advantages for the club’s members in the access to the Hospital’s health services. This was moreover a special edition, for Esgueira counts with the official medical support of Hospital da Luz Aveiro. The support to sports events and institutions is a valuable tool in the fulfilment of one of our missions: promoting healthy life habits and preventing disease, which includes the practise of safe physical exercise.
