The papers presented by physicians of the services of General Surgery and Gastroenterology from Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (HBA), on techniques and clinical cases followed up in this unit, were distinguished at the 14th National Congress of Digestive Cancer, that took place on November 9-10, in Albufeira. At the meeting, organized by the Research Group on Digestive Cancer (GICD), the award of second best communication was bestowed to Pedro Miranda and Susana Ourô, HBA general surgery internist and general surgeon respectively, who presented a new surgical technique in the treatment of rectal cancer (“Transanal total mesorectal excision”). HBA professionals presented a total of 10 scientific posters, two of which were also distinguished: one on program ERAS® in pancreatic surgery, by Mafalda Sousa Fernandes (general surgery internist) and Luís Féria (coordinator of HBA Department of General Surgery),distinguished as best poster, and another presented by the Service of Gastroenterology – on synchronous lesions in patients with pancreatic cancer, by Maria Pia Costa Santos, Maria Helena Oliveira, Paulo Oliveira, Cátia Cunha, Filipe Costa, Rui Maio and Marília Cravo, distinguished as third best poster.
