Dunja Milicic and Carolina Serôdio, otorhinolaryngologists from Hospital da Luz Arrábida and Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim, respectively, published an article in the Journal of Otolaryngology Research, presenting a resolution surgical technique of nasal middle third collapse. The collapse (partial or total) of nasal middle third – that is to say, the soft structures of the nasal pyramid – may occur due to negative intranasal pressure, resulting in the total anterior obstruction of respiratory flow. Although relatively common, this is a misdiagnosed or even underestimated situation in routine exams. There are, on the other side, several surgical options of treatment, all of them only resolving the problem partially or insufficiently. In this article, Hospital da Luz specialists suggest as possible resolution the graft of triangular cartilage, in accordance with anatomical and functional principles. The approach via open rhinoplasty, considering its wide exposure, is the chosen method. The article, entitled “Middle nasal valve collapse: a way to resolve”, was published on May 21, 2018 and can be consulted, here
