The clinical case 'Rare cause of abdominal pain in an adolescent', authored by physicians from three specialisms at the Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (HBA), won the award for best clinical case at the National Pediatrics Congress 2014. The case analyses a situation of thrombosis of the portal system in an adolescent with antiphospholipid syndrome and is the result of the multi-disciplinary collaboration between HBA pediatrics, gastroenterology and imagiology specialists. The work was presented at the congress by the pediatrician Rodrigo Sousa with assistance from Vera Rodrigues, Ana Boto, Sofia Lima and Marta Cabral, also from HBA Pediatrics, as well as the imagiologist Joana Paiva and the gastroenterologist Joana Nunes. The National Pediatrics Congress, organized every year by the Portuguese Society of Pediatrics, was held from 16 to 18 October in Albufeira in the Algarve, and was attended by more than 1,000 national and foreign specialists.
