Constant pain, besides the physical suffering it implies, affects the individual in his ability to work, interpersonal relationship and psychosocial welfare. Pain Consultation at Hospital da Luz Setúbal is integrated in the Anesthesiology Service and has a multidisciplinary scope, being designed for the approach of acute and chronic pain in its multiple variants. Access to Pain Consultation can be made by referral or direct appointment scheduling, using the normal channels (app, site, personally at reception or by phone). This consultation is destined for patients with oncologic pain, osteoarticular or musculoskeletal pain, lombalgy, sciatalgy or radicular pain, diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia, post-surgical or post-traumatic neuropathic pain, phantom or post-amputation pain, ischemic pain, painful skin ulcers, orofacial pain, pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea and fibromyalgia, among other algia situations. Patients with cephalea should be referred in a first stage to neurology consultation. Pain Consultation offers a global approach to these pain contexts, from diagnosis to the specific therapeutics for each clinical case and considering the individual characteristics. Integrated in the Service of Anesthesiology from Hospital da Luz Setúbal, Pain Consultation makes the diagnosis of the causes of pain and initiates the most adequate therapeutic to the characteristics of each patient and clinical situation. Non-pharmacological (therapeutic massage, neuromuscular bands, muscular dry needling) and pharmacological therapeutics (muscular and nervous structures infiltration, myofascial and intra-articular ozone therapy, mesotherapy, echo-guided techniques and ambulatory medication, among others) can be used. Whenever indicated, patients are referred to other medical specialties, as necessary for the adequate clarification of the algia situation. After the first Pain Consultation, the patient is followed-up for the necessary readjustment of therapeutics and/or treatment.
