On September 20, Hospital da Luz Torres de Lisboa will hold screenings for balance problems, vertigo and dizziness, open to the general population. This initiative is organized in partnership with the Portuguese Association of Otoneurology (Associação Portuguesa de Otoneurologia). Balance disorders are very common and are estimated to affect between 15% and 30% of adults. Dizziness, vertigo and imbalance are not the same thing, as people often confuse them. The prevalence of vertigo increases with age and affects approximately 40% of people over the age of 40 at some point in their lives. Vertigo attacks can be disabling, preventing people from working or even leaving the house. Falls can be frequent and have serious consequences. In a quarter of cases, the cause of vertigo is vestibular, i.e. related to diseases of the inner ear. If you're experiencing balance problems and dizziness, get screened by our team.
