Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim joined the Dulombi Mission, a solidarity initiative based in Vila do Conde that provides aid in the areas of health and education to the population of a small village in the heart of Guinea-Bissau. The 27 th expedition to Dulombi, happening between April 17 and May 7 this year, has carried material donated by the Hospital and had the participation of collaborators Ângela Reis, administrative services manager, and João Miguel Reis , general practitioner – who are mother and son and were here also united for the cause. The expedition comprised sixteen persons and four vehicles, starting from Portugal and covering a long stretch by land and sea, passing through Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal, to the final destination: Dulombi, in Guinea-Bissau. Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim contribution consisted in the donation of diverse medical supplies and community support. First aid kits – including latex gloves, pads and bandages, ointments, disinfectants, serums, blood pressure monitors, and patches – were sent, being fundamental to provide basic healthcare. For the children in NAD – an orphanage in Mauritania and one of the institutions visited during the mission, we have sent activity and colouring books featuring our mascot Lu, boxes of crayons and balloons, providing moments of joy and creativity. Founded in 2010, the Dulombi Mission is focused on Dulombi , but also supports solidarity institutions in multiple African countries – learn all about it in the site. The call to participate in this expedition came from our collaborator Ângela Reis, who expressed the desire to take with her not only material aid, but also a message of hope: “I believe that with our contribution we will be able to bring more hope and quality of life to those who need it the most”. This support reflects the commitment of Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim to social responsibility and the values of proximity and healthcare providing to those in need, even beyond borders. We thank everyone that has made this mission possible.Together we bring health and solidarity even farther!
