Emília Vaz Pereira , general-surgeon at Hospital da Luz Setúbal, was one of the personalities distinguished with a medal of honour by the municipality of Setúbal, during the solemn session of celebration of the City of Setúbal and Bocage’s Day, on September 15. The Medal of Honour of the City was granted in recognition of the valuable services provided on behalf of Setúbal and its citizens, in the area of Sciences and Technology . The medals of honour of the city of Setúbal are granted to individuals and institutions whose activity stands out “in a particularly notorious way and in the most diverse areas, in some moment of the local history or continuously”, according to the city council resolution of August 17 this year, which approved the list of honourees. Graduated by the Medical Faculty of Lisbon, Emília Vaz Pereira has practiced surgery along 36 years in Centro Hospitalar de Setúbal – Hospital de São Bernardo, where she coordinated the Service of General Surgery, among other managerial positions, and where she still maintains a consultation of Senology. She integrated the founding team of Hospital da Luz Setúbal (in 2004, then named Hospital de Santiago), and here, she is mainly dedicated to breast surgery, abdominal wall surgery (hernias), gallbladder and bile duct surgery.
