Eulalia Semedo, medical pulmonologist at the Hospital de Santiago and Hospital da Luz - Amadora Clinical Center, received the world diploma of Sleep Disorders Specialist from the World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM), shortly after obtaining certification as a Somnology Expert from the European Sleep Research Society. The mission of WASM, based in the US, is to contribute to the development of sleep medicine worldwide. It therefore promotes and encourages training, research and care in this area, acting as a link between different societies and cultures, supporting and encouraging the sharing of clinical information and research in the field of sleep medicine. Examinations for the award of WASM Sleep Disorders Specialist are held annually; in 2015 they took place in Seoul, Korea. Besides Eulalia Semedo, only two European doctors (one Spanish and one English) have this qualification.
