On the European Migraine Day of Action , celebrated on September 12 , the Portuguese Society of Migraine (SPC – Sociedade Portuguesa de Cefaleias) and MiGRA Portugal – the Portuguese Association of Migraine and Headache Patients – will organize a public session to inform about the disease, destined to the general population. Neurologists Elsa Parreira (SPC president), Raquel Gil-Gouveia and Sara Machado, professionals at the Migraine and Headache Centre from Hospital da Luz Lisboa and Hospital da Luz Oeiras , will be present. Besides an open discussion with health professionals, MiGRA Portugal will be presented to the public. Migraine and headaches are usual complaints in medical consultation and frequent cause of absenteeism, being classified by the World Health Organization as the main cause of neurological disability. About a million people are estimated to suffer from migraine in Portugal. However, the disease is under recognized and even undervalued. It demands a multidisciplinary medical approach, not only involving neurology, but also the specialties of physical medicine and rehabilitation, psychiatry, dentistry, gynaecology-obstetrics and maxillofacial surgery Clarify your doubts and participate in the session.
