“People should not go to the doctor simply when they are sick and in need of curative medicine”, as stresses Nuno Leite Oliveira , the coordinator of General and Family Medicine at Hospital da Luz Coimbra, where a dynamic team receives increasingly more families, carrying out over 1,200 consultations every month. This service is in highlight in the latest edition of “Diário de Coimbra”. GFM is the medical specialty dedicated to the long-term health follow-up, in all age groups (grandparents, parents, children), thus playing “a unique part in medicine, with a series of capabilities”. In this follow-up, medical check-ups assume an important role in the identification of risk factors and in the prevention and early diagnosis of many diseases.
