The Hospital Beatriz Angelo (HBA) realized their first harvest organs for transplant from a deceased donor yesterday. The collection was coordinated by the Office for the Coordination of Harvest and Transplantation of Centro Hospital Lisboa Central (Hospital S. José) and performed by a team within HBA, led by the Clinical Director of the Hospital, Prof. Rui Mayo in conjunction with elements of the team from the Office for the Coordination. Beatriz Angelo Hospital thus begins its participation in the common national effort to increase the number of donors of organs for transplant and transplant patients. The hospital is grateful to the donor's family and all professionals involved in this procedure for their cooperation and support. HBA is a public hospital, within the National Health Service network and managed under a public-private partnership with Espírito Santo Saúde (ESS). Recently, the Hospital da Luz in Lisbon, the flagship private health unit of ESS, also held its first multi -organ harvest for transplantation. In addition, transplantation and regenerative medicine will be one of the themes in debate at the Leaping Forward - Lisbon International Clinical Congress - the largest international medical congress in Lisbon - organized Espírito Santo Saúde and occurring from the 13th – 19th of February, 2014. The theme on transplantation and regenerative medicine will be led by Prof. Rui Mayo and include participation from some of the most notable world specialists in this area.
