Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (HBA) obtained once again the maximum rating of three stars for clinical excellence in the areas of general surgery (namely colon surgery) and orthopedics (in particular, hip and knee total arthroplasty and surgical treatment of proximal femoral fracture) in SINAS evaluation by ERS – Health Regulation Authority. In the area of pediatrics, namely in prenatal care and pneumonia treatment, HBA obtained two stars, thus maintaining clinical excellence levels above average. The ERS also audited the behavior of health institutions in areas related with patient safety, facilities, comfort and equipment quality, as well as the adequacy level of services to patient needs and expectations. In all these areas, HBA obtained the maximum rating of three stars. The results of this evaluation, concerning 2014, were known this week, but do not determine hospital ranking, as the health units decided which areas to submit to SINAS evaluation. SINAS is a system of evaluation of healthcare establishments’ global quality, developed by ERS – Health Regulation Authority, based on three fundamental criteria: accuracy, transparence and objectivity. The Health Regulation Authority argues that this evaluation system «strives for scientific and technical accuracy, objectivity and fairness, motivation and involvement of caregivers, transparence and intelligibility, concerning the establishments evaluated and the public in general, particularly patients».
