Hospital da Luz Arrábida was the official partner of Exercise Summit , a national event of reference dedicated to the promotion of health, physical exercise and welfare, gathering specialists, medical professionals, researchers, trainers, and practitioners of exercise. The meeting, hold on November 8 in Oporto, included a strong scientific and educational component with various lectures and workshops. Mariana Monteiro , endocrinologist, and Rui Barros , internist and coordinator of Hospital da Luz Arrábida Sports Medicine Center, were the two speakers in this national gathering: The first one made an intervention on “New drugs to lose weight: the substitutes of exercise?”, where she approached the therapeutic evolution in the treatment of obesity, the role of new drugs in weight control, and above all she clarified the importance of keeping physical exercise as a key component of quality of life and disease prevention; The second one did an institutional presentation dedicated to the Center, highlighting the main resources available, namely sports assessment, exercise prescription, specialized consultations, and injury prevention programs. Throughout the event, collaborators from Hospital da Luz Arrábida Sports Medicine Center were present to clarify any doubts concerning the services, specialities, and the scheduling of appointments, allowing the public to know better the solutions offered in the area of sports and physical performance. The Center is designed to follow up clinically any sports practitioner , from recreational exercise to high performance training. The participation in the Exercise Summit reinforces the positioning of Hospital da Luz Arrábida as an active player in the promotion of preventive health, safe sports practice, and health literacy near the community.
