The Dentistry Service of Hospital da Luz Coimbra has now available a new equipment for dental CT scanning : the cone beam computed tomography. Also known as CBCT (Cone beam computed tomography), this equipment combines X-rays with computer technology, capturing detailed three-dimensional images (3D), of high resolution, that allow to identify specific anatomic details non-visible in conventional exams (2D). Hospital da Luz Coimbra has an agreement with ADSE and insurance companies to carry out this test. Besides allowing to produce a differential diagnosis, the CBCT technology emits a low level of radiation. The dental CT scan with this equipment may be indicated in clinical situations such as: Dental planning and treatment; Orthodontics and dental implants; Maxillofacial surgery and traumatology; Periodontology treatments (supporting tissues and bones), endodontics, occlusion and odontopediatrics.
