The Vision Center at Hospital da Luz Lisboa has reinforced its investment in technological innovation with the acquisition of new femtosecond and excimer laser equipment, enabling more precise, effective, and safer procedures in different surgeries of the lens and cornea, namely in refractive and cataract surgery. The Center will count with Femto LDV Z8 , one of the most advanced and safer femtosecond lasers of today for ophthalmic surgery, including cataract surgery and refractive procedures (for correction of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism), presenting multiple advantages for patients: It is a low-level laser, offering exceptional precision and minimizing secondary effects, contributing to the recovery of sharp vision within a short period ; In cataract surgery, it allows a highly precise approach enabling the implantation of intraocular lenses, which offer greater independence from the use of glasses, both for near and distance vision; In corneal refractive surgery, beyond the classic Lasik technique, it allows to extend indications with the innovating CLEAR technique (Cornea Lenticule Extraction for Advanced Refractive Correction). This is an innovative minimally invasive no-flap procedure indicated for correction of myopia with or without astigmatism. CLEAR can be particularly advantageous for patients with tendency to dry eye or not ideal candidates to Lasik, further offering faster visual recovery, the majority of patients resuming normal activities few days after surgery; It can additionally be used in corneal procedures, namely implantation of intracorneal rings in the treatment of keratoconus, and equally as auxiliary technique in corneal transplants, facilitating surgical precision and the process of cicatrization. “This new equipment represents a significant qualitative leap in our clinical practise and allows us to continue affirming Hospital da Luz Lisboa Vision Center as a reference in refractive and cataract surgery”, states Filomena Ribeiro , the director of the Center.
