Hospital da Luz will ensure medical assistance to the athletes and elements of the organization of this seventh edition of Millennium Estoril Open, taking place between the 23 rd April and May 1 st 2022 , while guaranteeing total compliance with the protocols adopted by ATP in its tournaments- As official medical provider, accompanying the tournament since its first edition, Hospital da Luz will have permanently in Estoril Tennis Club, where the event will take place: A medical centre to assist athletes – coordinated by Rodrigo Moreira , orthopaedist specialized in sports traumatology, and including two physiotherapists and two massage therapists; A medical centre to assist the general public and all the staff involved in the competition, coordinated by Cláudia Febra , internist specialized in intensive medicine and medical emergence, which will have a physician and a nurse permanently present. On the whole, about 20 health professionals will be involved, among physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and massage therapists. These medical centres will be equipped with all the necessary medical devices for assistance. Furthermore, the event counts with the back-end support of the medical teams from different specialities and means of diagnosis of Hospital da Luz network in Lisbon. For the prevention of COVID-19, Hospital da Luz will have permanently present a Tournament Infection Control Officer – Carlos Palos , intensivist and coordinator of Luz Saúde infection control group –, who will be the responsible for managing the eventualities that might arise. The major Portuguese tennis event will be held once again, this year, with public attendance after two atypical years: in 2020, it was impossible to hold the tournament due to the pandemic, which entailed a 6-month interruption in the professional tennis circuit, and the 2021 edition was held without public attendance. In the courts, the competition promises to live up to the expectations of tennis lovers, the presence of three current ATP Tour ranking top-15 players being confirmed : the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (currently 9 in the ATP ranking), the British Cameron Norrie (12) and the Argentinian Diego Schwartzman (15). Former champions in the event, namely João Sousa (in 2018), Pablo Carreño-Busta (in 2017) and Albert Ramos-Viñolas (in 2021), will also be present. “This will be a great tournament with the return of the public, after two years. We count with the best cut-off ever. Our mission is to bring back the festive atmosphere that characterized the event and there will be plenty of motives for the enthusiasm of fans, that will be present in the precinct or follow the matches in the different multimedia platforms available”, stated João Zilhão, the director of the tournament, in the ceremony of presentation of this seventh edition of Millennium Estoril Open.
