The Hospital da Luz Setúbal Oncology Centre will hold, on October 31, with the support of Setúbal City Hall, a conference on breast cancer, open to the public. In the context of the international initiative Pink October – month dedicated to breast cancer prevention – the session will be free of charge, but with previous mandatory registration (until the 28 th of October). Breast cancer is the most frequent oncological disease in women but can also occur in men. With an early diagnosis and adequate treatment, breast cancer is curable in most cases, being fundamental to raise awareness for the importance of prevention, and dissemination of information and ways of support for patients and families. The conference program includes: Debates with patients who will report the impact of the disease in their lives, and specialists, who will share tips and advice on prevention and care. Presentations on the rights of patients, social support, and the importance of a family network throughout treatments. The conference will be held in interaction with the audience and will count with interventions by professionals of the Oncology Centre – João Rato (coordinator of the centre and oncologist), Francisco Almeida (psychologist), Emília Vaz Pereira (general surgeon) – and guest specialists Diana Fonseca (oncologist) and Luísa Almeida (social assistant).
