Hospital da Luz is, once again, a partner in the major health and exercise event held in Portugal. The 4 th edition of the Exercise Summit, taking place at Fórum Lisboa in the next 6 to 8 May, will gather the best Portuguese professionals in the Science of Sports and Exercise, holding multidisciplinary lectures and practical sessions dedicated to topics related with healthy lifestyles, disease prevention and quality of life for people with pathologies, always in the perspective of sport. With the participation of two of its top specialists in the area, physicians Rodrigo Moreira and Hélder Dores , Hospital da Luz collaborates in the promotion of the best scientific and clinical knowledge, and the confirmation of a strong bet on Sports Medicine. “This time, we will present the new Centre of Sports Medicine, located in Hospital da Luz Lisboa, which is presently a major bet of Hospital da Luz on the renovation of its clinical offer” , explains Rodrigo Moreira, the clinical coordinator of this new Centre and one of the keynote speakers in the Exercise Summit 2022. “We have dedicated and multidisciplinary teams, as well as differentiated equipment, for the diagnosis and treatment of lesions and other physical conditions, and for the improvement of performance in people practicing sports or doing exercise. We will rapidly become a reference in this field, in Lisbon area. I am certain of it”, he concludes. A partner of the Exercise Summit from the outset , Hospital da Luz and its specialists have been present in the lectures and discussions of the previous editions, seeking to diversify the sharing of clinical experience and scientific knowledge, and highlighting the role of oncology, orthopaedics or cardiology, when speaking about sport and physical exercise. This year, the Hospital da Luz Lisboa cardiologist Helder Dores dedicates his intervention to “The effects of COVID-19 on Professional and Amateur Athletes” : The infection by SARS-CoV-2 affected all kinds of people, including many regular practitioners of exercise, both recreational and competitive. In some, it caused symptoms or sequels with an impact on sports practise, sometimes long-lasting and harder to reverse, requiring specialized medical assessment”, justifies the physician. Therefore, the choice of this topic has the purpose of sharing information that might support the over 400 participants in this 2022 edition – mostly professionals in the area pf sports and exercise, such as physiologists and personal trainers –, in the work they dedicate to those dealing with the so-called long COVID, further states Helder Dores. Under the topic “Together for a Stronger Health”, the Exercise Summit 2022: Has for goal to promote the professional updating, quality and innovation in the professions connected with physical activity, and to disseminate content related with sports science and the role of professionals in the promotion of health; Counts with the participation of international experts, such as Brad Schoenfeld (North-American researcher specialized in hypertrophy training and enhancement of body composition) and Mikel Izquierdo (Spanish researcher and professor of biomechanics and exercise physiology); Includes in its program, besides the interventions by the two Hospital da Luz speakers, conferences by Portuguese professors and researchers in the area of physical exercise, physiology, science and rehabilitation. “In a time where we all recognize the importance of integrating physical exercise in lifestyle, we will bring to the Exercise Summit the best practice associated with strength training and present content that might contribute to a better health. This is an event destined to all those concerned with the different health complementary areas” , states Hugo Moniz , responsible for the organization of the event. The Hospital da Luz partnership is extended to the Exercise School (organizer of the Exercise Summit event), with which it develops the annual training plans “Exercise Clinical”, in areas such as cardiology, endocrinology, oncology, pulmonology, orthopaedics and neurology, among others, and destined to exercise physiologists.
