Hospital da Luz Torres de Lisboa has now available a new computed tomography (CT) equipment. Cutting-edge, the GE Revolution device has the main advantages of better quality imaging and reduction of the radiation dose patients are exposed to. Computed tomography – commonly called CT – is an imaging technique which uses ionizing radiation (meaning that the images are generated by X-ray). It is used in the diagnosis and follow-up of many diseases. The equipment now installed at Hospital da Luz Torres de Lisboa, combined with a medical and technical highly differentiated and experienced team, allows, for instance, the performance of all kinds of cardiac CT testing – namely, coronary tests, which are essential in the detection of the disease, stratification and individualization of the risk, and therapeutic planning. But CT exams can have other applications, from the diagnosis and assessment of internal lesions (in the event of trauma, for instance), to the planning of surgeries and follow-up of treatment results.
