Hospital da Luz Torres de Lisboa obtained certification by the European Society for Surgery of Shoulder and Elbow – ESSSE (Société Européenne de Chirurgie de l’Epaule et du Coude – SECEC), now becoming a qualified training center for specialists in the area. “This accreditation represents the acknowledgement of the excellence of care that we provide, with around 400 surgeries of this kind every year, the result not only of normal private surgical activity, but also of diverse and often complex pathology that arises within the collaboration with insurers Fidelidade, Generali/Tranquilidade and Lusitânia, in the context of occupational accidents (OCC), complemented by the scientific and educational activity of the various surgeons involved”, points out Carlos Maia Dias , the coordinator of the Shoulder and Elbow Unit in this hospital’s Orthopedics Service. There are only six educational centers certified by SECEC/ESSSE in Portugal and Torres de Lisboa is the first unit within Hospital da Luz Network to integrate this prestigious European net. With about 65 hospital centers accredited in Europe, SECEC/ESSSE has for goal the promotion of scientific cooperation and the training of specialists in shoulder and elbow surgery. Among the most valued requirements in this certification of Hospital da Luz Torres de Lisboa are the aforementioned high volume of surgical activity, the experience of the team’s physicians as trainers in national and international courses, and the articles and research works published these last five years in scientific journals. “Our patients can be assured not only that we are highly experienced professionals in this field, but that we also are permanently updating knowledge, applying and teaching the best surgical practices”, further adds Carlos Maia Dias.
