Hospital da Luz Vila Real supported the 14 th edition of ‘Pic-Nic Famílias’ (Families Picnic), which took place in Corgo park, on June 2. It was a Sunday of great celebration, with the presence of hundreds of families from Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, where many took the opportunity to do the free health screenings offered by Hospital da Luz. The nursing team of Hospital da Luz Vila Real – integrating Alexandra Valença, Marta Silva and Gonçalo Ferreira – carried out over a thousand screening tests , namely cholesterol, glycaemia, blood pressure and body mass index evaluations. The initiative “Festa da Família / Pic Nic Famílias” is promoted annually by Associação de Amigos de Trás-os-Montes e Douro. The young ones can always count with many entertainment spaces and play in the inflatable parks and slides. The regional products fair makes the delights of adults, as well as the picnic. The Pic-Nic Famílias started as a small-scale event and, today, it is a reference in the region, which was made possible thanks to the dedication and support provided by several institutions, since 2008. It counts with partners such as the Vila Real City Council, the UTAD, PSP, GNR, the Fire Department and the Thirteenth Infantry Regiment, besides Hospital da Luz. “We take the opportunity of this celebration to gather families and raise awareness to the importance of spending more time with children, grandparents, and parents. In the present hectic international scene, we aim to give hope. Along these last 14 years, we have maintained this event, inviting everyone to bring a picnic basket and enjoy the park”, stated Justino Silva, president of Associação de Amigos de Trás-os-Montes e Douro, to the newspaper “A Voz de Trás-os-Montes”.
