Glaucoma is still the most frequent cause of irreversible blindness in the world, but it is possible to prevent it with regular eye examination. Therefore, Hospital da Luz Arrábida joins the international organizations World Glaucoma Association (WGA) and World Glaucoma Patient Association (WGPA) in the promotion of World Glaucoma Week, from 10 to 16 March, as a way to alert to this disease. This year’s campaign slogan is “Green = Go get your eyes tested for glaucoma: save your sight” – encouraging everyone to take regular eye examination, the best way to prevent significant glaucomatous lesion. Glaucoma causes functional visual loss without symptoms until late stage. Although treatment delays the evolution of the disease, it does not reverse the damage already installed – therefore, early diagnosis allows to save more vision.
