The Centre of Hepato-pancreatic biliary Diagnosis and Treatment from Hospital da Luz Coimbra offers an innovating multidisciplinary consultation, which will be ensured simultaneously by surgeon Emanuel Furtado and radiologist Filipe Caseiro Alves, both with sub-specialization in the area of liver, bile ducts and pancreas. This consultation allows a wiser decision in clinical cases of hepatic, pancreatic and biliary pathology, offering patients a prompt second multidisciplinary opinion. According to Filipe Caseiro Alves and Emanuel Furtado (in the photo above), “many liver and pancreas nodules are unexpectedly discovered or emerge in the context of metastization of a known oncologic disease”. In those cases, “multidisciplinary consultation can provide a more rigorous diagnosis or help chose the better alternative for therapeutics”. The Centre of Hepato-pancreatic biliary Diagnosis and Treatment is formed by a multidisciplinary team, integrating the specialities of gastroenterology (hepatology), oncology, surgery, diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology and radiotherapy.
