From the 1st of June until the end of September, Hospital da Luz Lisboa will support the National Health Service (SNS) in carrying out deliveries of pregnant women who are accompanied by public services in the Region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, whenever the capacity of public maternity hospitals is compromised. The maternity hospital at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, currently the largest in the country, is under great pressure due to high demand - since January until today, over 1,500 babies have been born at Hospital da Luz Lisboa. However, Hospital da Luz Lisboa could not fail to be alongside the SNS at this unique moment experienced by the obstetrics services of the ARSLVT hospitals. In accordance with the rules of the convention to which the private sector was invited to adhere by the SNS Executive Board, this collaboration is governed by the following principles: Access for pregnant women accompanied by public health services to deliveries at Hospital da Luz Lisboa is exclusively guaranteed by referral from INEM according to criteria of availability and proximity. Only pregnant women older than 36 weeks will be referred by INEM to Hospital da Luz Lisboa, with no previously identified serious pathology that could anticipate the need for intensive adult or neonatal care. Postpartum women will not pay any amount at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, their remuneration being ensured by the Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS).
