Hospital do Mar Lisboa marked on April 24 its 20 th anniversary with a celebration held in the terrace of that Luz Saúde Group unit. Plenty of music and animation and a well-deserved snack, participated by the large majority of the professionals that make this hospital a singular case in the national panorama of specialized healthcare, turned this into a relaxed and enjoyable celebration, where also took part a few patients following their rehabilitation in this unit. Manuel Caldas de Almeida, executive manager of Hospital do Mar since its establishment, started by thanking the Luz Saúde executive commission for the original idea of the hospital’s creation and for “the merit of doing something never imagined in Portugal 20 years ago, which was a hospital of this kind” . Today, he continued, “we have the privilege of benefiting from a wonderful space, but what counts for those who are with us is the everyday work: it is 20 years of medical care, 20 years of nurses that know how to perform well what needs to be done, 20 years of medical assistants that offer daily, minute by minute, warmth, affection, and support to our patients”. To all the professionals who have been making the history of these 20 years at Hospital do Mar, Manuel Caldas de Almeida left words of gratitude in the name of the institution and in the name of all the people that have been treated and followed there, not forgetting their families: "I wish to thank you for making Hospital do Mar, for giving life to what we are at Hospital do Mar. Congratulations to you all”. Inaugurated in 2026, Hospital do Mar Lisboa introduced in Portugal an innovating concept in healthcare. Care in dementia, in particular in Alzheimer’s disease for which it provides a specific inpatient unit with various architectural and functional specificities. Palliative care and support to families. Geriatric care, in the assessment and follow-up of health promotion, healing and rehabilitation in consultation or inpatient regime. Chronic disease follow-up, through specific programs and guided intervention in acute and more advanced phases of the disease.
