The cold weather in the morning of last December 11 did not discourage the around 1.600 little runners , that invaded Parque da Cidade, in Póvoa de Varzim, for the traditional interschool Country-Cross Running , which takes place annually in the scope of the project Projeto Escola da Minha Vida, promoted by the municipality. Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim was also present in the initiative, providing support and nursing care to all participants. The sporting event was disputed in several categories ; junior, juvenile, initiated, infant A and B, masculine and feminine, counting with the participation of secondary schools Rocha Peixoto and Eça de Queirós, Colégio de Amorim and schools E.B. 2/3 Dr Flávio Gonçalves, Cego do Maio, Beiriz, Aver-o-Mar, Rates and Mapadi. The conviviality and fraternization between students was the main purpose of this event organized by the departments of Sports and Youth of Póvoa do Varzim City Council, that have had for over a decade a significant role in the relationship between the municipality and schools, promoting the passion for sports among the youngest and their subscription of the underlying values . Hospital da Luz defends this philosophy of raising the population awareness about the need to practice physical exercise, in childhood and in adult life, which is a way of improving the quality of life and reducing health expenses.
