The Iron Brothers, team formed by brothers Miguel and Pedro Ferreira Pinto, were recently at Hospital da Luz Lisboa to have sports medicine consultations and exams. The consultations of sports cardiology and the exams – electrocardiogram, echocardiogram and stress electrocardiogram and – were integrated in the preparation plan for the triathlon competition IronMan 70.3 Cascais, taking place next Sunday, September 29, in which this special team will participate. IronMan 70.3 Cascais consists in a 1.9 km-open water swimming event, a 90.1 km-cycling event and a 21.1 km-running event. The challenge to participate together in such a demanding competition came from Pedro, suffering from cerebral palsy, but was promptly assumed by both, who decided to embark on the project months ago. Miguel will have the task to carry Pedro along the event: he will tow him in a canoe in the swimming event, on an adapted bike in the cycling event and on a special wheelchair in the running event. In the Centre of Sports Medicine from Hospital da Luz Lisboa , Miguel Pereira Pinto had the opportunity to have consultations and the necessary exams to assess his health condition. In this dedicated area of the hospital, there are all the technological and human resources required for the medical evaluation and counselling of physical exercise and nutritional programs, adequate for anyone, recreational sports practitioners or top-level athletes. The Centre offers a multidisciplinary response , also including, besides the aforementioned assessments and counselling , the diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of lesions and diseases related to the practise of sport , as well as rehabilitation measures concerning sports injuries .
