Hospital da Luz Learning Health will provide next May 26 a course in Basic Life Support (BLS) with Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Certified by the Portuguese Council of Resuscitation (CPR) and by the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) , this course will allow the acquisition of competencies to help an adult victim in sudden cardiorespiratory arrest, with safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Cardiopulmonary resuscitation training is a topic that has been raising more and more attention and concern, since an adequate and technically advanced intervention early on is decisive to improve the chances of survival. About 88% of victims of sudden cardiorespiratory arrest suffer the attack at home and at least 8% manage to survive. An efficient cardiopulmonary resuscitation, initiated immediately after the cardiorespiratory arrest, can double or even triple the chances of survival , but only 32% of victims receive support from duly qualified persons. Anyone can learn how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, thus being able to save lives. This practical course of Hospital da Luz Learning Health is ensured by trainers certified by the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and is a 5-hour training. The participants will learn how: To apply all the procedures and specific techniques of BLS/AED, demonstrating the application of the required techniques with efficiency and in the correct order; To place the unconscious victim, breathing normally, in lateral recovery position, demonstrating the application of the required techniques with efficiency and in the correct order; To clear the airways of the victim, demonstrating the application of the required techniques with efficiency and in the correct order; To act adequately in case of airway obstruction by a foreign object, demonstrating the application of the required techniques (interscapular back blows and Heimlich manoeuvre) with efficiency and in the correct order. Note: For compliance with the certifying entity rules (CPR), registration in the course is mandatory until the 8 May 2023. The participants will subsequently receive instructions on how to access a guiding manual, that must be read two weeks before the training date. Vacancies are limited being assigned in order of arrival. All those interested but with no more vacancies available can nevertheless do their registration, so they can be informed by Hospital da Luz Learning Health of new trainings.
