Hospital da Misericórdia de Evora will mark the World Sleep Day, on March 17, promoting free screenings to assess eventual sleep alterations and disorders , such as insomnia and snoring, and to divulge information on the subject. The screenings will be carried out by a team of the hospital. The latest scientific knowledge indicates that there is a connection between sleep disorders, such as fatigue and snoring, and specific diseases. The most common is the obstructive sleep apnea, a respiratory disease that can trigger serious cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, sleeping badly has negative consequences in terms of individual performance and quality of life. The World Sleep Day: Was established in 2008 by the North American organization World Sleep Society, being celebrated on Friday before the Spring Equinox. In 2023, the motto is “Sleeping is essential for health”, intending to raise the awareness of the population to the fact that sleeping is a fundamental behaviour for our physical and mental welfare.
