The Hospital da Luz Learning Health Simulation Centre is organizing interactive sessions with medical acts training, specifically destined to young students aged between 13 and 18 that are interested in learning more about what health professionals do, namely physicians, nurses and researchers, and eventually interested in following a professional career in the area. The first session of this SimTeens (The Healthcare Professionals of the Future Experience) will take place next 27 June. Over the course of a morning (about four hours), the participants will have the opportunity to delve into different, and unique, experiences, only possible to be carried out in what is the largest clinical simulation centre in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe. There, they will find a simulated hospital, a replica of a real one, where they will be able to: Make contact with the main professions in the area of health – namely, medical specialties, nursing, clinical research, and Artificial Intelligence and data science); Train certain basic skills (3 hands-on sessions to introduce the practice of clinical acts / basic techniques in medicine, as well as basic clinical acts of patient observation, echography, laparoscopy and basic life support). By the end of the session, it is expected that the participants are able to identify: The spectrum of professional activity in the areas of medicine and nursing; The main working areas of a researcher and the relevance of clinical trials in the sector; The emergent areas of intervention in the digital era (data science / AI); The role of simulation in the process of teaching-learning in health professions.
