This Christmas at Hospital da Luz will be even more special: until the end of December, all babies born in the maternity unit will receive the traditional Christmas bootie and hat, a tender “kit” that is already a house brand moving families, now also including a Lu plush toy, our mascot. The idea of the Christmas bootie and hat was launched in 2020 by Augusta Matos , Gynecology-Obstetrics physician, and originated from the desire to welcome newborns in a unique and affectionate way. The first model was carefully stitched by Ana Pinto, operating theatre nurse, rapidly evolving to a project adopted by the maternity every year in December, Today, these red polar fleece items are a token of tenderness for families in such a special moment. In 2025, the maternity unit takes a step forward in this welcoming tradition. From now on, all babies born here will also receive a Lu plush toy, the Hospital da Luz mascot, a friend accompanying them from the first day and a souvenir for life. To mark the moment, Lu himself came to the maternity unit and offered the first plush toy – a tender visit that will surely remain in the memory of our babies’ families. The Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim Maternity Unit is prepared to provide safe, differentiated, and humanized care, from pregnancy to postpartum, to mothers and newborns.
