Luís Graça is the new president of the Portuguese Society of Surgery (SPCIR) , one of the most relevant national scientific societies. The Hospital da Luz general surgeon (Arrábida, Porto and Póvoa de Varzim) was elected by his peers and will take the helm for the next biennium (2026-2028). In the message addressed to SPCIR members, the new president underlines “the deep sense of responsibility” initiating this mandate, “assuming the unwavering commitment of honouring the history of Portuguese surgery”, enhancing it and “reinforcing the sharing of knowledge between surgeons, irrespective of the geographical or academic context”. Among the priorities established for his mandate, Luís Graça points out the promotion of continuous training, with special emphasis on the younger generations, the incentive to clinical research, and the reinforcement of the society’s role as a dynamic space aggregator of the national surgical community. The election of Luís Graça translates the acknowledgement of his professional career and is a contribution to the development of surgery in Portugal, further representing a point of pride for Hospital da Luz.
