With the increase of chronical diseases and the expansion of life expectancy , health services have to offer qualified and specific responses to this growing group of patients, namely in what concerns the issues of clinical complexity associated with pluripathology and the end of life. Palliative care is therefore, today, an ethical and organizational imperative and a human right , integrating this kind of responses. In this context, there will be organized, on November 15 , in Vila Nova de Gaia, the 3 rd Meeting of Luz Saúde Palliative Care Units . “Palliative care, further” is the theme elected for this annual congress of professionals from Grupo Luz Saúde units and other units around the country, that work in the area or have interest in it. In this 3 rd Meeting of Luz Saúde Palliative Care Teams, it is assumed that the modern model of intervention of these teams: Is more comprehensive, focusing on the individual and intervening on his suffering; Breaks down barriers by promoting the continuity of care in the different spaces occupied by the patient; Demystifies ideas associated with diseases; Assumes, definitely, that its modus operandi is the ideal matrix to respond to situations of high complexity. The challenge is to make available to all patients, especially the most complex cases and those in more pain, humanizing and dignity promoting practices, already well-established in palliative care services. That is to say, a kind of “positive conspiracy” movement across the board – hence the motto chosen for the meeting, “Palliative care, (definitely) further!” Enrol yourself!
