Marília Cravo is the new president of the Portuguese Society of Gastroenterology (SPG – Sociedade Portuguesa de Gastrenterologia). The director of Hospital da Luz service of Gastroenterology will hold office during the 2025-2027 biennium. “I will be assuming the mandate with a strong sense of responsibility and enthusiasm”, states the specialist, who was until now vice-president of SPG. The “priority goals” for this mandate are clearly identified: “ Promoting education, access to information and improvement of digestive health among the population ”. “Thereby we will play an active role in the empowerment of patients, respective families and caretakers. Furthermore, we will be ready to establish relevant partnerships that may contribute to promote digestive tract disease prevention”, she adds. “We intend to continue reinforcing the importance of gastroenterology as a comprehensive and cross-sectional medical speciality, going far beyond endoscopy and colonoscopy, englobing multiple areas of differentiation, and strongly interacting with other specialities”, concludes the specialist. Besides clinical practice, Marília Cravo is associate professor with aggregation at Lisbon University Faculty of Medicine, main researcher in 32 research projects and author of over 150 articles published in scientific journals.
