“General and Family Medicine is a kind of 'gateway' to health, in other words, it's the specialty of reference when all health problems need to be addressed,” explains Cristina Neiva Moreira , coordinator of the General and Family Medicine Unit at Hospital da Luz Oiã, in an interview with Diário de Aveiro newspaper published this week. The unit's team, created in 2021, was reinforced and now has four specialist doctors (in the photo above): Gisela Santos , Inês Almeida and Raquel M. Sousa , in addition to Cristina Neiva Moreira. Throughout the interview, Cristina Neiva Moreira explains the importance of this specialty and how it works with other medical and surgical specialties, guaranteeing, for example, the referral and carrying out of recommended cancer screenings. “General and Family monitors the long-term health of each person, in all age groups,” she points out, adding: “It therefore involves a multitude of clinical and social approaches to the individual as a whole. This is also done through coordination with the other specialties at Hospital da Luz, so that there is complete and excellent follow-up”. The clinician took the opportunity to thank the population for their confidence in her team's work.
