The Robotic Surgery Unit of Hospital da Luz Arrábida is now equipped with a Da Vinci Xi HD surgical robot, the most advanced in the world in this area, allowing to perform surgeries with a higher level of complexity. Hospital da Luz Arrábida was the first hospital in the North region to offer this cutting-edge technology, in 2017, and the acquisition of this new equipment reflects the continuing investment on innovation and quality in order to better serve clients. The first patient operated with the new robot, early this month, had a malignant neoplasm in the kidney. The Da Vinci Xi HD robotic surgery system: Will be used in this hospital to perform minimally invasive surgeries in the areas of Urology, Gynaecology, General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery; Is characterized by a new architecture of the arms and instruments of the robotic system, which are lighter and thinner, plus a more compact design. This allows a higher degree of movement of the instruments, compared to the previous model – a great advantage for surgeons, in terms of procedure, translated in benefits for the patient, since it allows less invasive, therefore less traumatic surgeries, and a faster recovery . Robotic surgery offers better results in the treatment of multiple diseases, such as prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, obesity (gastric bypass), and endometriosis, among other pathologies with indication for this surgical approach. Hospital da Luz Arrábida has already performed 117 robotic surgeries, since 2017.
