The prestigious north American scientific magazine, “The Laryngoscope”, published in its January edition a study by Miguel Gonçalves Ferreira, otorhinolaryngologist from Hospital da Luz Arrábida, in collaboration with other specialists. The article approaches the use of a new rhinoplasty technique to correct “nasal hump”, so common among Portuguese population. Entitled “Spare roof technique in reduction rhinoplasty: prospective study of the first one hundred patients”, the article arises in the scope of a research conducted in recent years on the use of this technique, which is pioneer in the solution for cases of “nasal hump”. It was concluded that it was possible to apply aesthetic rhinoplasty to these patients, by reducing but preserving the nasal dorsum, and improving breathing. This technique is faster, more stable and avoids graft insertion that always causes subsequent rhinoplasty complications. This technique is available at Hospital da Luz Arrábida and its use, associated to tranexamic acid anaesthesia, allows a post-operative period without ecchymoses (black patches) and practically painless. Founded in 1890, “The Laryngoscope” is the major disclosure channel for advances in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies in this clinical area. Read the article here
