Nurses from Hospital da Luz Lisboa (HLL) and Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (HBA) presented scientific papers at the International Council of Nurses congress held in Singapore between June 27 and July 1. Organized by the Singapore Nurses Association, this year’s congress registered about 5,000 participants and more than 4,000 scientific papers proposed for presentation (of which 599 oral presentations, 1547 posters and 483 e-posters were selected). It was an opportunity for nurses from around the world to establish contact and share knowledge. Among the works presented, the jury chose, for their quality, two posters and one oral presentation of the professionals of Luz Saúde. The topics covered are the COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) nursing consultation, the care provided to patients who undergo surgery and integrate the ERAS program and the role of nurses in infection control. Marco Vieira (HLL), Ana Josefina Gomes (HBA) and Jorge Sousa (responsible for the Transversal Nursing Programs of the Luz Saúde group) presented the poster entitled ‘Nursing Consultation in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): A Patient-centred care model’. ‘The Nursing Care Manager in the ERAS Program - strategy and implementation experience’ is the theme of the second poster presented by Diana Isabel and Isabel Gonçalves, both from the Hospital da Luz Lisboa. The ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) program, in which HBA is a pioneer in Portugal, aims to optimize the care provided to patients who underwent surgery, before, during and after the surgeries, with the purpose of obtaining better treatment results, faster recovery and shorter hospitalization time. Finally, Ana Soraia Bispo, a nurse integrating the infection control group of HBA, made an oral presentation about the ‘Nurse-driven protocol for urinary catheter removal’. Founded in 1899, ICN is a federation of more than 130 national nurses associations, representing millions of professionals around the world. The next congress has already been scheduled for Abu Dhabi, in 2021. In the photo above, Jorge Sousa, Ana Soraia Bispo, Ana Josefina Gomes, Marco Vieira, Diana Isabel and Isabel Gonçalves.
