The Sports Medicine Center at Hospital da Luz Arrábida is accredited to carry out the overclassification examination - the special sports medical examination that has to be carried out by federated athletes who intend to compete at levels higher than those corresponding to their age. The aim is to determine whether the athlete's development/maturation allows them to practice at these levels, with higher levels of competitiveness. At the Sports Medicine Center at Hospital da Luz Arrábida, the overclassification exam: Includes two Sports Medicine consultations, an electrocardiogram (ECG), an echocardiogram, an X-ray and blood tests. It is carried out by doctors specializing in sports medicine, with the necessary knowledge to accurately assess the athlete's state of health and ability to face the physical challenges of a more advanced category. It assesses aspects such as endurance, strength, flexibility and biological maturity, ensuring that the athlete is prepared to compete at a higher level without compromising their health. The sports overclassification test is aimed at young athletes who demonstrate above-average performance for their age and who want to compete against older and possibly more experienced opponents. The decision to subject the athlete to this test usually comes from the coaches, parents or guardians, and their formal authorization is required. In addition, the examination must be carried out by a medical entity approved for this purpose, such as the Sports Medicine Center at Hospital da Luz Arrábida , in order to guarantee that all protocols and safety standards are strictly complied with.
