Pedro Carreiro Martins , an immunoallergist at Hospital da Luz, has just been elected president of SPAIC - the Portuguese Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology - for the 2026-2028 term. The specialist was already involved in the Society's leadership as secretary-general, but now assumes the position of president, ensuring the continuity of the work that has been done, namely in the "modernization of SPAIC, in the training of our specialists, in research lines and in communication that gives even more prominence to our specialty and greater relevance to SPAIC". In official statements after the election, the new president of SPAIC also expressed his intention to strengthen partnerships with national medical and scientific societies and with international counterparts. Pedro Carreiro Martins holds a PhD in Medicine from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Lisbon and a postgraduate degree in Health Services Management from Lusíada University. With a career in the public hospitals of Santa Marta and Dona Estefania, in Lisbon, he has been associated with Hospital da Luz Lisboa and Hospital da Luz Torres de Lisboa since 2015. He is also an associate professor with Habilitation at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon (FCM-UNL) and vice-principal for teaching at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon. His curriculum also includes work in the area of research, as vice-coordinator of the Laboratory for Respiratory Functional Studies at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon (since 2014), researcher at the Comprehensive Health Research Center (CHRC) of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon and co-chair of the “Cardiorespiratory Function and Infection” Research Group at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon.
