The image “ Intensive Care ”, which illustrates this news, taken by photographer Sara Matos in Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (HBA) Intensive Care Unit, was distinguished with the 3 rd prize in the contest organized by Somos-ACPL (Communication Association of the Portuguese Language). The photographer captured a brief moment of rest of a nurse, sitting in a chair in the area reserved for patients with COVID-19, alleviating a bit of the pressure and exhaustion caused by personal protective equipment, that becomes strenuous after a few hours in a shift. The 1 st prize was awarded to Rodrigo Cabrita, with the photo “Tear” , picturing the first child hospitalized in Portugal with Covid-19, at Hospital Dona Estefânia. “ Mother, I will hold you! ”, is the title of the image distinguished with the 2 nd prize , by João Porfírio, who captured the first embrace between a mother and daughter, through a plastic curtain, with sleeves separating them, after three months of prohibited visits in nursing homes. Somos-ACPL is a cultural non-profit organization based in Macau, that has for purpose the fostering of the Portuguese Language in that territory. This third edition of the photo contest “Somos – Images of Lusophony”, had for theme “The Lusophone soul in times of Covid-19”, being open to all citizens of Lusophone countries and regions with photos taken in any of their places of origin: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Macau, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe, East Timor, Goa, Daman and Diu. The jury highlighted that their task in this year’s edition was “hard”, considering the quality of the photographs, which “exceeded” that of previous editions. The winning images, together with dozens of other images selected by the relevance of the photographic theme and their importance for the purposes of Somos-ACLP – of promoting the cultural dimension of Lusophony and the role of Macau as a platform connecting China and the countries/regions of Portuguese language –, integrate an exhibition scheduled for opening on March 26 , at Orient Foundation, in Macau .
