November is the month dedicated to raising awareness to men’s health issues, and several units of Hospital da Luz Network are available to provide free prostate cancer screenings, namely in Amarante, Aveiro, Coimbra, Covilhã, Figueira da Foz , Guimarães and Vila Real. The screenings are exclusively destined to men over 50 undiagnosed. The screenings will be conducted by clinical professionals from the afore mentioned units, all those interested being required to previously register on MY LUZ. See below the dates available and how to register. At Hospital da Luz Vila Real and Clínica de Amarante, every screening includes a nursing consultation, PSA test, and flowmetry (urine flow test). In case the results indicate alterations in normal values, a Urology consultation is scheduled on the same day, also free of charge. At Hospital da Luz Guimarães, each screening includes a PSA test and a consultation with a urologist. The PSA test will be performed one hour before the scheduled appointment time. At Hospital da Luz units in Aveiro, Coimbra, Covilhã, and Figueira da Foz, screening includes a PSA test. If the results indicate a change from normal values, a urology consultation will be scheduled. Prostate cancer is the second malignant tumour most frequent in men.
